Rio Carnival 2016

Let the Carnival Begin...

If you are a lover of cartoons then today’s blog will put life into an event Blue Sky Studios  impressed in our minds as the most Spectacular Spectacle‘Rio’ and ‘Carnival’. The cartoon ‘Rio’ is a small pictorial depiction of ‘Carnival’ which in reality takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro has long been regarded as the Carnival capital of the World. Although, Carnivals are celebrated in towns and villages in Brazil the biggest and most flamboyant remains the Rio Carnival. It is the standard by which every other Carnival is measured against. Over half a million (500,000) visitors troop into Rio every year to experience the most Grandiose event on the Globe.

The history of ‘Carnival’ dates back to the ancient Romans and Greeks who celebrated the rights of spring by throwing parties, wearing masks and dancing in the streets. The Portuguese were the first who brought the culture of Carnival to Rio around 1850. In the beginning the Rio Carnival was mostly Euro-centric with dances like the Waltz, Polkas taking centre stage, however, overtime the Rio Carnival was done differently with the infiltration of the Brazilian traditions which had a lot of African and Amerindian cultures embedded.

During Carnival social roles and class is forgotten as aristocrats dress as commoners, men would dress as women and the poor dress up as princes and princesses. The black slaves were able to be free for three days to be actively involved in the celebrations. Nowadays, Carnival is a platform for competitions and entertainment which has become the main attractions of the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

The Rio Carnival is not just an event set up to entertain, it is a means of expression for Brazilians. it sums up the Culture, their way of thinking and their way of life in Brazil. An average Brazilian sees Carnival as important.
