4 Summer Vacation Options in Africa

Are you looking for the perfect Vacation spots as Summer approaches? Does your worries revolve around affordability in terms of; accommodation, fun activities, flight and other appendages, Is the destination one that is frequently visited is?

This piece is for you, what comes to mind would be Gambia as it meets all of this. It is very popular, nice, and inexpensive when compared to other equally cool places like Zanzibar,  and Cape Verde. Another option that meets our checklist would be Kenya and this would definitely offer a great time as well

Gambia would be an easier option because it requires no visa, as it is a member of the ECOWAS states. However, July/August might fall into the rainy season, which is the time of heaviest rainfall and high humidity. Very beautiful though and green, lots of exotic birds, generally very quiet but there is still plenty of places to experience.

Cape Verde is an interesting destination with a fast growing interest from travellers as it offers a great experience. The various Islands of Cape Verde each offer their own unique experience from cultural to historical to lovely beaches and more.

There is the Baia das Gatas music festival in Sao Vicente from August 14 to 16, 2016 and other great events and activities on the other Islands.

If I were to compare it to Zanzibar as just one destination (side by side), I would go for Cape Verde as it offers more due to more Islands to experience and things to see and do.

However, considering Zanzibar as part of Tanzania, where you could have a mixture of the Kilimanjaro, a great Wildlife and Safari parks plus the beaches in Zanzibar (amongst others), I would go for the latter.

Also, Cape Verde meets all expectations especially the inexpensive part. Also flights to Cape Verde are not direct and could require long waiting hours during stop overs. For instance, flights in August, which is also in the rainy season in Cape Verde, as of today from Lagos to Praia, Cape Verde comes to between NGN218,000 to NGN230,000 with an itinerary that might require a night stay in Casablanca on Air Maroc.

I think the choice of destination would greatly depend on your interests and of course, your budget for the trip..

Do have a pleasant week as you plan for the Summer.

Your Travel Bae
Bon Voyage
